ABOUT THE PROJECT
The short poetic documentary, If These Locs Could Talk, speaks to the part of us dedicated to changing narratives that don’t honor our humanity. This is a love letter to us, from us. It captures the rich and complex simplicity of our hair, specifically our loc’d hair. This subsection of the community has long been overlooked or relegated to a specific part of the Black diaspora.
The film premiered at Issa Rae’s HOORAE Takeover at The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. During its festival run, it won Best Documentary Short at The African Film & Arts Festival in Dallas, Best Documentary Short at The Micheaux Film Festival in Los Angeles and Best Short Film at the Detrioit Black Film Festival.
